May Karam started working as Nurse in a surgical ward, then in hemodialysis unit and intensive care unit. She also worked in heart surgery unit, ICU first then in operating room. In 1998, she went back to a specialized school to obtain her OR Nurse diploma (one year full time education). Then, she worked 2 years in Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD). Now she works 12 hours night shift in an operating room where they perform orthopedic surgery, traumatology, gynecology, abdominal surgery and Minimally Invasive Surgery and where she worked before day shift. She studied risk management and health security in healthcare facilities and is associate editor of the French Journal for Operating Room Nurses “Interbloc” edited by Elsevier. May is member of the French National association of perioperative nurses and president of the European Operating Room Nurses Association (EORNA).
